DescriptionDescription: Two Richly Dressed Women. Inscribed at lower right in pen and brown ink: Dominique Vicentini. Numbered at lower right: 1318 (Sparre) and 2 (struck out). At upper left fragment of inscription: Maganza (?). A drawing of central importance for assessing Maganza's drawing style is a Crucifixion in the Uffizi (no. 12.862) with the old inscription Allessandro Maganza. Tietze has linked this with a group of drawings from the Grassi collection that have found various homes, one being the Albertina, Vienna. A drawing in Munich with what is probably the artist's own inscription is also of central importance. Our sheet differs from most of those mentioned above, in that their compositions contain several figures. But it has the same flowing application of the wash as the Munich sheet; otherwise a Caritas in the Albertina seems to offer the closest parallel. Characteristic features are chiefly the manner of drawing hands and faces. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 78]
