DescriptionDescription: Adoration of the Magi. Laid down. The traditional attribution to Veronese was, accepted by Sirén, who compared the sheet with, in particular, a Martyrdom of St. Justine in Biblioteca Reale, Turin. Borenius accepted this, though he had not seen the original. Tietze, on the other hand, considers that the sheet comes from the shop, as a simplilfied variant of Veronese's composition of the same subject in Brera, while the style is described as being "close to drawings bearing Carletto's name of old". Fiocco, finally, suggests in a personal communication the name of Pasquale de'Rossi, known as Pasqualino, born 1646 in Vicenza, died 1725, active in Rome. The likenesses with the Brera painting are not convincing but the composition is generally reminiscent of Veronese. The loose, almost calligraphic structure of the drawing hints at a 17th century follower of the master.[slut] [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 17]
