DescriptionDescription: No watermark. Inscribed on the mount at lower left in pen and brown ink: "Pompeo Ghisi Bresciano" and, in Tessin´s hand at lower centre "Cabinet de Crozat". Provenance: Crozat (Mariette, no 640) ; C.G. Tessin (List 1739-42, p. 48 r) ; J.C. Sack ; E. Perseus ; G. von Rosen ; C.U. Palm ; G.W. Lundberg This drawing and the next three- with different provenances but all inscribed with attributions to Pompeo Ghitti- have been brought together here by chanse. There can be little doubt that this and the next number are by the same hand. There is a parallel group of disparate sheets in Accademia Carrara, Bergamo, where at least one drawing seems to be by the same hand as these two, namely the rendering of Christ on hight between the Virgin and John the Baptist with two adoring angels. Ghitti seems to have been a prolific drawer. Orlandi, his first biographer, writes that at his death he left whole chests full of drawings and watercolours. [Description in It.Drawings, Cat.nr 239]
