DescriptionDescription: David Beck was one of the foreign artists active in Sweden in the time of Queen Christina. His chiaroscuro manner of painting was a feature of the Dutch art of the period. The gold embroidery of the sash and the gleaming cuirass are illusionistically painted. Gustaf Horn is portrayed according to the convention for generals, in a cuirass and with a face marked by time. He pursued a largely military career, including service in the Thirty Years War.
