DescriptionDescription: Margareta Leijonhufvud wears a floor-length gown, fashioned from costly patterned fabrics and lavishly embroidered with pearls. Her hair is covered by a cap, likewise decorated with pearls. As queen, she is depicted with the regalia of crown, sceptre and orb. The portrait is posthumous and is attributed to Johan Baptista van Uther, who worked for the queen’s son John III. As the costume shows significant similarities to the sculpture on the Vasa tomb chest in Uppsala Cathedral, the portrait is assumed to have been painted on the basis of it.
