DescriptionDescription: Meytens painted these portraits (referring to NMGrh 401/1355) of the king and queen during his stay in Stockholm in 1730–31. The ermine lining of the queen’s mantle and the king’s coat are an indication of their status, but apart from this the images are similar in composition to those of other members of the highest social elite. The position of the subjects is, however, underlined by the original frames, which have three crowns at each corner and crests combining the sitters’ monograms with a sceptre, sword and royal crown.
