DescriptionDescription: Description in Art Bulletin of Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, vol 15, 2008: Probably the artist Marguérite Gérard (1761-1837) NMB 2583 The artist at the easel in Dumont´s portrait is considered to depict Fragonard´s pupil Marguérite Gérard, who was also his sister-in-law. She readily collaberated with her famous brother-in-law, exhibited frequently at the Salon and engravings were regurlarly made of her works. This interesting portrait shows yet another aspect of Dumont´s oeuvre. The last time an acquisition of this miniaturist took place was at Christie´s famous Pierpont Morgan sale 1935. [slut]
