DescriptionDescription: The sculptor James Flaxman began his career as a modeller at Josiah Wedgwood’s ceramics factory, the Etruria Works. This vase, designed by Flaxman, shows the Roman poet Virgil receiving the laurel wreath from the muses. The winged horse on the lid, Pegasus, has given the vase its name. Wedgwood’s speciality was unglazed stoneware in muted colours, decorated with classical-themed cameos in white.
