DescriptionDescription: Ford Madox Brown, best known as a painter, looked to traditional peasant furniture when he designed the Sussex line of chairs. He was part of the British Arts and Crafts movement and a critic of the industrial production of the era. The chair was made by Morris & Co. and sold at the trendsetting Liberty department store, opened in 1875 and a purveyor of imported goods from Japan as well as Arts and Crafts items.
