DescriptionDescription: Splat back were the most common form of chair in Swedish palaces and manor houses in the mid-18th century and had a given place in Swedish Rococo interiors. They were characterised by their open backs with curved tops and centrally placed splat. They were often varnished in shades of brown to resemble English models made, for instance, of walnut. The chairs were also characterised by the turned H-cross that braced the legs and the “keyhole” in the backs.
