DescriptionDescription: Watch stands became fashionable in the Empire period in the early 1800s and remained popular throughout the century. Today, it is easy to find out what the time is, by looking at our mobile, computer or a wristwatch. In the early 1800s, watches were beginning to spread beyond the upper classes, and new social groups were able to tell the time. Often, however, it was too expensive to buy both a watch and a table or longcase clock, so they would place their watch in a stand to serve as a table clock. In the 19th century, watches were mass-produced, and more and more people could afford them
