DescriptionDescription: Björquist had been tasked with creating a timeless service that could become a long-lasting classic. The result was the warmwhite service Stockholm, with cosmopolitan decoration names such as Paris, New York and Kyoto. The development of a new service was costly. The production of a 29-part service in exclusive bone china with gold decoration and celadon glaze was an enormous venture. Gustavsberg also tested a new approach by using an external advertising agency that was given extensive influence. Stockholm was launched with a celebrity party and frivolity. Gustavsberg, which had strong roots in the concept of better things for everyday life, was criticised in the design magazine Form for having forgotten its identity, but the service was acclaimed and won the Excellent Swedish Design award in 1987.
