DescriptionDescription: In 1899, Gustavsberg hired the artist Helmer Osslund as a decorator. He was sent to Paris on a study visit in 1890, and in 1891 Gustavsberg displayed his new collection at the industrial arts exhibition in Gothenburg. Osslund’s employment at the factory proved short, however, and in 1893 he resigned on the grounds that he did not want to devote his time to imitations. He wanted to create freely. The Rococo-style jardinière is an exceptional work of art with Osslund’s decoration skilfully applied by the factory’s foremost porcelain painter Franz Meder.
