DescriptionDescription: Julius Kronberg’s painting Nymph and Fauns attracted a great deal of attention when it was exhibited at Nationalmuseum in 1876. The fauns look upon the naked female figure as a quarry, from the voyeur’s perspective. By her side is another quarry, a dead game bird. By depicting the painting on an urn 20 years later, Gustavsberg generated interest while also demonstrating that master painter Franz Meder could paint like Kronberg, who had just succeeded August Malmström as professor of figure drawing and painting at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. The urn was cast in the same moulds as those with motifs after Boucher, but the models differ as the parts were not put together in the same way.
