DescriptionDescription: The image on the vase features Winge’s painting Thor’s Fight with the Giants. It is a reference to the battle between good and evil, but also as an image of the power struggles in contemporary Swedish politics. When Winge’s dramatic, five-metre tall painting was shown at Nationalmuseum in 1872 it drew throngs of visitors. Gustavsberg’s 1873 use of the famous painting was strategic, arousing interest and showing that the firm was up to date on current issues.
