Form and décor here echo Greek amphora-type vases with red-figure painting. The theme is a tribute to the god Apollo, protector of the fine arts. A row of musical notes cites God Save the King, which was translated into Swedish in 1805 by Abraham Niclas Edelcrantz as Bevare Gud vår kung. This suggests the vases were made shortly before Masreliez’s death in 1810.
