When Gustav III visited Florence in 1783 during his Italian tour he studied the pietra dura stone inlay technique in the Pisani brothers’ workshop. A month later, the king sent a collection of Tuscan marble samples as a gift to Count Nils Adam Bielke, chairman of Bergskollegium (the National Mines Board). Those marble samples make up the top of this table from Kommerskollegium’s collection.
