Gottlieb Iwersson was trained by his father Olof in Malmö and in 1778 became a master in Stockholm, where he had his own workshop on Norrlandsgatan. These sideboards/buffets, with their neo-classicist design and ornamentation, were masterpieces made in 1799 by Joseph Höckert, one of Iwersson’s journeymen. Objects of this type were also called chiffoniers, as they were often used to store the fabric chiffon. The front of a drawer in one sideboard can be lowered to provide a writing desk.
