This table clock is an excellent example of how many specialists would contribute to the production of a single luxury item in 1780s Paris. The two figures, L’Etude and La Philosophie, had been made by Louis-Simon Boizot already in 1776 to be cast in bisque porcelain at Sèvres. The bronze founder François Rémond turned Boizot’s various parts into a gilded case, while the watchmaker Michel-François Piolaines supplied the works.
