The richly decorated urn was painted by Anton Vogel. In 1883, he moved from Germany to Sweden to work as a decorator and porcelain painting teacher at the Rörstrand factory in Stockholm. As of 1889, he was a partner in Stockholms Glasmåleri Neumann & Vogel. The urn has the shape of a classic amphora with handles. Regularly positioned relief ornaments in Renaissance style frame the body of the vase, on which Vogel has naturalistically depicted exotic orchids, butterflies and hummingbirds.
