This tapestry was woven at the French manufactory of Beauvais. In 1699, Count Carl Piper took delivery of a set of six, which were used to decorate his Stockholm town house. The silk threads reflected the candlelight and the rich colours brought to life the humorous scene of an elephant being led forward, as if on a stage. The grotesque ornaments, with a playful mix of plants and architecture, is in harmony with the symmetrical design of the border.
