Cecco is short for Francesco, and Cecco del Caravaggio was the nickname of the boy who appears in Several of Caravaggio’s most famous paintings. Cecco later became an artist himself and belonged to the first generation of painters who were inspired by Caravaggio’s early wilder style. His works are characterised by their masterly rendering of chiaroscuro and distinctly marked contours that conjure up shapes and volumes.
