The inventory from 1547-1548 of Gustav Vasa’s art collection at Gripsholm castle, describes a painting with the words: “Christ feeding a lot of people in the desert”. Desert here meaning wasteland. This is probably the painting mentioned. The scene shows the feeding of the 5,000. The people are given a prominent place here, in line with the significance of the congregation in the Protestant Church.
