BeskrivningBeskrivning: Se beskrivning i den engelska versionen. Beskrivning: Very worn, several repairs, most important on the right wing, across the neck and throat, and above the left wing, where a piece of paper has been filled in. Patches of paint and oil stains. Vertical join in centre (the sheets has been cut in two and rejoined in modern times. Laid down. NMH 390/1863 (right part), NMH 387/1863 (left part). On the verso is pasted NMH 386/1863 (Insects) and formerly NMH 389/1863 (Flying sparrow). Numbered on the mount: "5" and inscribed in reddish ink: "GIO.DA UDINE", and below in brown ink: "Dell´istesso libro, e si vede dipinto nelle Loggie" Apart from the repairs, the bird´s neck has been retouched with green paper. The red on the bird´s head, which is also found in the filled in area, must also be due to the restoration. The sheet was probably cut in two already in the 18th century; the two halves were numbered separately in the 1790 catalogue. The extremely ruined state of the drawing makes any judgement impossible. Most likely this is a study after a dead bird. The drawing is backed, but some chalk sketches of face ovals and eyes in profile can be distinguished on the verso when the sheet is hold to the light.
