Cracks in paint layers on the reverse; loss of paint layers and ground from the right corner and edge of the reverse. This depiction is only a section – head and shoulders – of the traditional Mother of God of Vladimir. On the reverse of the icon, enclosed by a wide olive-green frame which follows the outer edge, is a representation of the Cross of Golgotha with the instruments of the Passion, shown in a circle against an orange background. The painting of the cross is contemporary with that on the obverse. [slut]
