Surface abrad ed with various paint layer losses. “Presumably the smallest iconostasis icon is in Nationalmuseum in Stockholm... An extra tiled roof is hinted at beneath the domes and behind the semi-lunettes. The saints are depicted in pairs in each field, without scrolls; the prophets face... the motif of the Mother of God from the Monastery of the Cave (Peshcherskaya). The local tier is terminated at the bottom by a socle with decorated plates. The Royal Door shows Baroque influences; it is arched and its medallions show the Annunciation and the Evangelists.”1 This icon is rooted in the tradition of the Old Believers,2 by whom icons of this kind were held in particular esteem.3 1 “Die wohl kleinste Ikonostasenikone wird im Stockholmer Nationalmuseum aufbewahrt...
