Beskrivning: Lars Nordin was one of few Swedish 18th century cabinet makers who went to Paris to learn the trade. In Sweden he was given several prestigious commissions by the royal court as early as in the 1740s. This chest was bought by Carl Robert Lamm in 1893 in an antique shop. It appears in Carl Larsson’s large portrait of Dora Lamm. The chest was bought in 2009 by Barbro Osher, who donated it to Nationalmuseum. Description from Art Bulletin of Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, vol 16, 2009: Lars Nordin´s feeling for proportion and his attention to detail gave cabinet-making totally different dimensions in Sweden. The design of his furniture was to set the style and his sideboard can be said to be the finest example of Swedish rococo. In 1766 Lars Nordin supplied two sideboards for Crown Prince Gustav´s (later Gustav III) fashionable apartments, of which one still stands in the palace in Stockholm. [slut]
