DescriptionDescription: Watermark. Circle and coat of arms? Provenance: J.Ph. Lemke? ; N. Tessin the Younger (Cat. 1730, p. 9) ; C.G. Tessin ; Kungl. Biblioteket ; 1866 transferred to Nationalmuseum Exhibitions: Stockholm 1965, no. 74 This and the [...] drawings [NMH 157/1866:161 and NMH 157/1866:163] form a homogeneous group here attributed to Giacomo Cortese. They are larger than the drawings from the Bellori-volume and depict more complicated scenes. One suggestion is that they represent a later period of the artists career. The drawings come form a volume of 253 sheets, chiefly battle scenes and skirmishes. In his catalogue, C.G. Tessin declared that most of the drawings were original works by Lemke.1) Although the motifs included in the volume do make a uniform impression, it is clear that several artists are represented, most of them colleagues and contemporaries of Lemke, who was supposedly the first owner of the volume. 1) P.
