DescriptionDescription: Bo Beskow was one of the most sought-after portrait painters of 20th-century Sweden. The National Portrait Gallery has several of his images of leading politicians, including Tage Erlander and Ernst Wigforss. This portrait of the liberal and feminist Kerstin Hesselgren is austere in composition, with the sitter in a frontal pose, looking straight at the viewer. On her election to the Riksdag in 1921, Hesselgren was its first ever female member.
