BiographyProbably studied with Esaias van de Velde in Haarlem 1611–18. He went to Italy in 1624 or 1625 and may have stayed there until his death, the place and date of which are not known. A visit to Haarlem in 1641 is documented. As a painter of landscapes and genre scenes, he greatly influenced many artists, not only of the Netherlands.
