It is morning, and a modiste is visiting her client. We see period accessories: the peignoir worn by the client, a powder puff of swan’s down and, next to the modiste, a box of colourful bows. The painting was intended as part of a series showing tasks from morning and midday, evening and night. They were commissioned by Carl Gustaf Tessin for Crown Princess Lovisa Ulrika. This was the only work in the series to be completed.
