Northern Sweden, with its mountain scenery, was a popular source of subjects around 1900. At the same time, industrial exploitation of its natural landscape was under way, especially in Swedish Sápmi. As the landscape became a national asset, it must be used with care, as the newly created Swedish Tourist Association showed in its roll call “Know Your Country”. Osslund painted the landscape from a low vantage point, inspired by Japanese images.
