Olof Arborelius was in fact a member of the older generation and specialised in scenes from everyday life, but he was also an accomplished landscape painter. This motif from Engelsberg shows that he was no reactionary but was influenced later in his career by plein air painting. On one occasion this painting was voted as being the “most Swedish” picture of the Swedish countryside and was called “the Sweden painting”.
