Oscar Björck was one of several Swedish artists who travelled to Skagen to paint. Others were Ingeborg Wästfelt-Eggertz and Johan Krouthén. He probably painted the motif with a barn in Sweden in 1890 after collecting studies on site in Denmark in the previous year. The painting is a monumental depiction of the daily toil with the cows on a farm. Bjork has devoted great attention to the rendering of light and shadow in the room.
