German artist Johan Johnsen was born in Kiel and came to Sweden at the end of the 1670s on the invitation of Georg de Besche, the owner of the Forsmark ironworks. This resplendent still life in the form of a bouquet contains no fewer than 17 different flowers that were found in botanical gardens of that era and were in bloom at different times of the year.
