Christen Købke is perhaps at his most empathetic in his portraits of children. The images he painted of his younger sister, Adolphine, and, much later, his 5-year-old nephew, Johan Jacob Krohn, are among his most sensitive portrayals, effectively capturing the individual character of these children.
