Krouthén is associated with his paintings of apple trees in bloom and red wooden houses from the latter part of his career. This is an early work and portrays young Dr Boman and family in their garden in Linköping. What stands out is the careful attention to detail and the accomplished rendering of the overall atmosphere – which was strived for in plein air painting in the 1880s and which artists learnt in France.
