Anna Nordlander was born and raised in Skellefteå. She studied at the Academy of Fine Art and continued her studies in the 1870s in Paris and Brussels, where she learned to prefer the old masters such as Rubens and van Dyck to modern painting. After returning to Sweden, she became one of the first artists to portray Sami life. In this tree study, she has focused on the variety of green shades and nuances in nature.
