BiographyFrançois Eisen was active from 1716 in Valenciennes,
where he painted pictures for churches. He
returned to Brussels where he stayed until 1745 when
he settled in Paris. He there became a member of the
Académie Rouen. His son was the painter and illustrator
Charles Dominiques Joseph Eisen. François
Eisen painted religious and historical motifs and small
genre scenes. He was also active as an engraver after
Rubens and others
