  • Nationality/DatesItalian, born c. 1370, dead 1439
BiographyJacobello was the son of the painter Francesco
del Fiore, and one of his pupils was the famous
quattrocento painter Carlo Crivelli (1430/35–1494).
His father had a well-established bottega, but as
yet no signed work by Francesco has been recognized,
although the Master of the Giovanelli
Madonna has recently been identified with him.
At all events, Jacobello must have trained in this
workshop, and some of his earlier paintings are
considered to have been produced under the
strong influence of his father. Among these we
can include the Madonna of Humility, now in
Stuttgart, executed around 1400, and possibly the
fragmentary triptych representing the Madonna
of Humility with St Augustine and St Paul, now in
the Pittas Collection, dated 1400 to 1405.
