BiographyHendrick van Steenwyck the younger was the
son of the art dealer Hendrik van Steenwyck the elder
and probably also his pupil for a period. He worked
for some time in Frankfurt am Main, Antwerp and
The Hague and eventually travelled to London. He
returned to the northern Netherlands around 1645
and settled in Leiden. Van Steenwyck the younger
mainly painted church interiors and architectural
motifs and collaborated with figure painters who
included Frans Francken II, Adam Elsheimer and
Cornelis van Poelenburgh.
