Jenny Beckman has a B.A. in history of science and ideas from Uppsala University and an M.A. in history of science from Johns Hopkins University, USA. She is a doctoral student in both the Office for History of Science at Uppsala University and the Department of History of Technology and Science at KTH. Her advisors are Svante Lindqvist, and also Sven Widmalm at the Office for History of Science in Uppsala. She enrolled as a doctoral student in the spring of 1994.
Jenny is taking part in the project "Vetenskap i industrins tjänst? En revidering av föreställningar om vetenskapens samhälleliga betydelse" [Science in the Service of Industry? A Review of Concepts of the Social Significance of Science] together with Sven Widmalm and Svante Lindqvist. The project is financed by the Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation. The subject of her doctoral thesis is the Swedish Museum of Natural History and the growth of the "Science City" in the Frescati area of Stockholm around the turn of the century.
