BiographyFödd i Chaume, Nevers, Frankrike. Hans far var konstnären Jean-Baptiste Caruelle. Omkring 1859 la han sin styvfars namn till sitt eget och kallade sig Caruelle d'Aligny. Levde som liten i Paris och gick på École Polytechnique till 1808. Aligny ställde ut på Salongen första gången 1822 och från och med 1833 ställde han ut där regelbundet.
