The two late Republican temples in Tivoli soon became popular tourist attractions with their picturesque location high up on the city’s former acropolis. Gustav III visited the site on 6 April 1784 and carved his name on one of the temple’s columns. He had purchased this and four other models while visiting Naples more than a month earlier. When he returned home in early August, Gustav was able to unpack this and other cork models at Drottningholm.
