    Wood: Linden (Tilia sp.), egg tempera
    on canvas on gold ground. Panel made
    of single board with one spline inlaid
    from one side; back painted brown.

    Inscriptions a t.: A) Inscribed vertical
    inscription in Cyrillic letters in palae -
    ography, contemporaneous with the
    icon: ANNA PRO[ROCHITSA]
    DIMITRII; B) Hand-written text in
    black ink in Cyrillic letters, probably
    19th century: 1. obra[z.......] (ikon......);
    2. Na pamyat’ o matushke i tetushke
    dvukhAnna Ivanova Sinitsyny /3 fevralya
    ( In memory of mother and aunt Anna
    Ivanovna Sinitsyna /3rd February ).

    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: background and frame repainted in
    19th century; minor retouches mainly on
    borders. Scattered losses of paint layers;
    gold on halos abraded; panel warped
    Most of the wording in Anna’s text
    band has disappeared. The warrior
    Saint Demetrius holds a lance in his
    left hand and a sword in his right.
    Prob ably a family icon, possibly made
    in connection with a wedding.
