This is the only work in the National Portrait Gallery that is painted in a drawer. Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s portrait is expressive, with bold colours. It highlights characteristics of the sitter such as his glasses, red scarf and eloquent gestures. Carlo Derkert is shown at work, guiding a museum tour. On the wall there are paintings, and behind him two of his listeners. Derkert was an important innovator in museum education, working chiefly at the Nationalmuseum and Moderna Museet.
