This portrait was painted by Ulrica Fredrica Pasch in August 1780, possibly on the recommendation of Stierneld’s friend Reuterholm, who had sat for her earlier. Both were chamberlains to Queen Sofia Magdalena. Stierneld is portrayed as an elegant gentleman in a fashionably tight-fitting coat, with a cut reminiscent of the Swedish national dress. Much later, in the 1820s, he was entrusted with arranging the portrait collection at Gripsholm.
