The main motif of the box is the sculpture that surmounted Brandeburger Tor, a four-horse chariot with the personification of victory, Victoria. This sculptural group is surrounded by cartouches with the three monarchs whose armies played the most important role in the victory at Leipzig: Tsar Alexander, Emperor Francis of Austria and Frederick William III of Prussia. Along the edge runs what Stobwasser called in his marketing a garland of immortal stars or, in more concrete terms, a border with 22 small circular portraits of the allied commanders. Some examples of the box are also decorated on the bottom with a picture of the Iron Cross, established in 1813.
Johann Gottfried Schadow’s Victoria group on Brandenburger Tor served to mark the Prussian victory on two occasions. The group was taken away as booty after Napoleon’s entrance into Berlin in 1806 but returned in triumph from Paris in 1814.
