Bronze statuettes of famous Classical sculptures were among the most popular souvenirs for people on a Grand Tour. This was also true of Gustav III, who selected 20 by Giacomo Zoffoli before leaving Rome in April 1784. Transport was organised a month later by the king’s art agent in Rome, Francesco Piranesi. These small bronzes were soon used in the new décor that was created for Gustav III at Stockholm Palace or ended up at Drottningholm Palace.
