    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: panel thinned and reinforced, scattered
    retouches with artificial craquelure,
    abrasions of background retouched,; NM
    1966: panel split in four parts, cracks glued,
    reinforcement replaced with horizontal
    aluminium struts; later overpaintings
    removed (B.Titov). Signs of cracking in
    panel; damage with ground and paint layer
    losses along the bottom edge; halo gold
    heavily abraded
    The text on the scroll, which is predominantly
    intact, reads: “Peter said:
    Thou art Jesus, the Son of the Living
    God. On this rock [...].”1
    Exhibited in Berlin 1966 as Novgorod
    school, 15th century.
